Join us for a 1.5-hour virtual workshop on documentary storytelling as a practice of witness, resistance, and craft. Drawing on over fifteen years of filmmaking rooted in the Caribbean, facilitator Akley Olton guides participants through four core pillars: story structure built from lived experience, the ethics and politics of authorship, archival memory and the reclamation of suppressed narratives, and practical approaches to short-form digital storytelling. The first 45 minutes take the form of a public lecture — recorded for broader access — followed by an open Q&A and a hands-on working session with the BCaT Lab cohort, focused on the specific story challenges participants bring to the room. The workshop centers on a Caribbean and diaspora framework, treating storytelling not as a neutral technical skill but as a political and cultural act.
